Introduction

College application season is an exciting time, but it can be very intimidating. The vision of “The Next Chapter” in a young person’s life is shared by the whole family. However, uncertainty about the right fit, fluctuating deadlines, and varying acceptance criteria can be quite daunting without the right guidance.

My name is Doreen Moore. I have been an active and credentialed High School and College Counselor at a Southern California Private College Prep High School for over 28 years.

During my tenure, I have had the opportunity to assist hundreds of students and their parents successfully navigate the high school experience and the college prep process.

One of the greatest joys is when one of my students comes in to share the exciting news and thank me for helping them realize their dream…. they were accepted!

I truly believe what I do is more ministry than a career.

Over the years, I have had many parents outside my High School ask for assistance. They are unsure and a bit anxious about how to effectively direct or assist their child through this process. Many of them feel alone, as many public school counselors are overworked and understaffed for the large student population they are assigned to provide dedicated assistance.

These parents are left with a decision:

1) Let their child go it alone and do their best – Hardly the best option.

2) Ask other parents for advice – A survey of over 5,300 credentialled counselors ranks this as the worst option.

3) Scour the internet for resources – This is like going back to college themselves! Too much information and no guidance as to which is best for them creates even more overwhelm.

4) Pay for a Private High School/College Counselor – Prices range from $4,000 to $10,000 per year.

These parents need help. They have lots of questions. Many times the solutions are too expensive or the answers are commonly insufficient to give them the help they need… and worse yet, they feel like they are too late in the game to do anything to help their child pursue their dream.

I believe that any student that applies his or her self in High School and wants to go to college deserves expert guidance regardless of financial position.

For the last 9 years, I have been helping students and their parents navigate the college application process through my program called Application to Acceptance.

Our initial program was a four-step process called The Partnership Program (aka Application to Acceptance) that began at the end of Junior Year and continued through Senior Year where we worked closely with the students on junior/senior year preparation, the college application and included the final college selection that fit the student’s career goals and academic profile as well as the parent’s financial resources.

I am proud to report that every student I have worked with has been accepted to the 4-year college of their choice. Moreover, these students were accepted to the vast majority of all the schools to which they applied.

This has been tremendously rewarding and beneficial for all involved, but parents with younger students started asking for guidance in the lower grade levels. They were asking questions about the transition to high school and how to set up an effective academic plan that best fit their student's ability and aspirations.

To answer these questions, we thought we would introduce The Personal 1:1 Navigation Session... a private session with student and parent to create a customized roadmap specifically for the student based on academic profile, career interests and other special interests of the student.  This is the same session we use to embark on our Partnership Program. The Navigation Session provides a guide to take them through high school to the college application process.  A simple and detailed checklist at each grade level is included to ensure the student's success.

The Navigation Session has been by far our most popular program. Everything a student and parent needs to successfully navigate the academic plan to create the best options for college acceptance.

Even though the private Navigation Session proved to be so effective and popular, there were still students and parents that needed the extra guidance without the need for the investment in the Partnership Program. They wanted more interaction.

Now, with our online program called College Prep Roadmap Interactive we offer a program that guides students and their parents through all four years of the High School journey and the College Prep process so they can expand their options, improve their chances of acceptance to the college of their dreams while still enjoying all that the High School experience has to offer.

The new College Prep Roadmap Interactive program includes monthly “Check Point” lists that keep you on track and on purpose. Each month through the year, we conduct a live Student and Parent Progress Meeting online where we review the progress “Check Points” and answer all your questions… and probably answer a few questions you might not know to ask. We even provide weekly Q&A to keep the process flowing and the anxiety to a minimum.

The online program guides students through the College Prep Process using the same frameworks, content, and guidance I use with my $2,997 per year Partnership Program, but at a fraction of the cost.

All of the content, frameworks and “Check Points” are available in your member’s section… even the recordings of the monthly Progress Meetings and weekly Live Q&A.

The combination of the Navigation Session with the College Prep Roadmap Interactive is a combination that provides personal expert guidance and ongoing direction and interaction similar to a private college counselor at a price anyone can afford.

There is so much more… including an exclusive private Facebook community for each grade level... Where you can interact with our counselors as well as learn through other families questions and experiences.

So go ahead and check out our Partnership Program, our Navigation Session or our College Prep Roadmap Interactive to see what is best for you.

If you still have questions, shoot me an e-mail and give me your phone number so we can connect to discuss further.

I look forward to serving you and guiding you through this exciting time.

College Bound!
