Junior - All Systems Go!

Junior year is GO TIME!

Pre-Application Prep...

Everything is taken up a notch and juniors are taking the PSAT for the 2nd time and will be registering for an “official” SAT or ACT this year.

Juniors need to be prepared to talk more about college, potential majors and schools they are considering.  They are beginning to day dream about life after HS but they are still far away from making college decisions, but the thought of it sounds pretty cool!

Rigorous classes, AP exams and SAT/ACT are the hot topics of junior year.

Resume needs to be updated and registration for senior classes is quickly approaching.

As Seniors, they will be required to research the colleges they are interested in, making sure they are completing the right courses, taking the right tests and are well aware of admission requirements.

Before Summer, Juniors will decide which teachers they will ask to write their letters of recommendation and begin to shorten their college list.

There is a process and a great deal of nuance involved. The right guidance is critical. Know who to talk to, what to ask and HOW to ask is very important at every juncture.

Junior year includes these important elements...

  • Staying committed to the 4-year plan and complete 1-2 more Honor’s and/or AP classes.
    • Colleges look at students who are challenging themselves with their classes and course load.
  • Taking the PSAT again (October)
    • There are benefits for doing well here.
  • Maintain grades... do not let the foot off the gas. Everything counts!
    • Continuing to fortify good study and time management habits are UBER Critical.
  • Time to get serious... Create a tentative but realistic college list.
    • Select a stretch school or two, but how you have focused and performed until now will define your options.
  • Time to schedule SAT and/or ACT - Juniors should prepare and plan early tests so they have the option for retakes.
    • This is where a good Prep Course is encouraged.  At College Prep Roadmap,  we will conduct a special meeting to discuss what to look for in a good prep course and even provide discounted options.

Note: Once you purchase the College Prep Roadmap Curriculum, it is good for all 4 years: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, & Senior Year. You will not have to come back and purchase the course again for Senior Year.
